Services

The services we offer go from analytical to creative.  At the analytical end, we can test websites for accessibility and usability standards so you can have a diverse consumer base and comply with legal standards.  We also can make documents more accessible.  We can even edit documents so your words and sentences will flow into meaningful thoughts and ideas.  Under our document editing service is Easy Read, where documents are simplified so persons with cognitive and learning disabilities can comprehend written content.

At the creative end, REM CC can help you express your sentiments to loved ones with personalized poems or communicate thoughts to specific audiences with customized blogs.

Accessibility and Usability Audits

We perform accessibility and usability audits so individuals of all abilities can visit your website, access information, and purchase your products.  Blind persons who use screen readers can read about the latest store deals.  Persons with other vision impairments can see content easily since it has sufficient color contrast.  Users with dexterity impairments can scroll through links by using the keyboard.  An audit also can prevent legal risks if its recommendations are implemented.  Once your website or app becomes accessible, then your public image will also improve.

Audits are based on Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and the Worldwide Web Consortium Accessibility Guidelines 2.1 (WCAG 2.1).  If you do business with the U.S. government, then we test your site based on Section 508 of the United States Rehabilitation Act of 1973.

Each audit contains the name and the URL of each page tested.  We review a representative of pages.  For example, if your website is an online store, we would audit:

  • Header and footer
  • Home page
  • A category/sub-category page, including filter options
  • A product item page, including customizing color/size
  • Shopping Bag dialog and page
  • Checkout page
  • Store Location page
  • Contact page
  • Sign up for any programs/deals

To test these pages, we use JAWS, Chrome Developer tools, Accessible Names & Description Toolbar (ANDI), Deque toolbar, and Accessibility Resource Center (ARC) toolkit.

In the final audit report, we describe the issues found on each page and how each issue impacts users.  We also provide recommendations to remediate every issue.
Although REM Creative Consulting cannot implement the recommendations, we can work with your web developer or refer you to a certified one to complete remediation of your site or application.

Document Remediation

Accessible documents are essential to the success of your business.  If you employ individuals who are blind or visually impaired, documents such as memos and reports must be accessible so they can read them with screen readers and other assistive technology.  Accessible guides, statements, menus, to name a few, also must be available to clients and customers with disabilities.  It promotes good business, so they’ll keep returning.  It also prevents you from legal implications under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

We remediate Word, PowerPoint, and PDF documents.  We ensure:

  • Informative images have alt attributes.
  • Headings, lists, and data tables are styled or tagged.
  • Form fields are labeled or tagged correctly.
  • Reading order is logical.
  • Color contrast is sufficient.
